Nabil J. Azar, MD

Dr. Nabil J. Azar earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. He completed an internship at the Washington Hospital Center and a residency in neurology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Azar subsequently completed fellowships in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Azar joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University where he directed the epilepsy fellowship program and was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. He later engaged in the private practice of clinical epilepsy. Dr. Azar is board certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy. He is an active member of the American Epilepsy Society and American Academy of Neurology. 

 

Dr. Azar is a recognized expert in the field of clinical epilepsy and EEG reading. He has published several original research manuscripts in distinguished journals, and contributed in defining newer standards in the diagnosis and treatment of patient with seizures or related conditions. He authored two review books on clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy, and trained dozens of physicians to become epileptologists.

Dr. Azar also conducted multiple clinical trials on new antiepileptic drugs or new indications of existing drugs, and anti-seizure devices. Dr. Azar is frequently an invited speaker to national and international conferences.
